Innovations in green wallpaper manufacturing over the last 10 years have produced eco-friendly bathroom wallpaper in response to the growing environmental consciousness of consumers. The use of renewable, sustainable materials to produce wallpaper for every room of the house, including the bathroom, has also added the benefits of easier, do-it-yourself application and removal methods.
One major benefit of a green bathroom wallpaper is that it (and its accompanying green wallpaper border) are manufactured using sustainable natural materials like bamboo and other grasses that can be can be grown, harvested, manufactured and reproduced quickly for the manufacturing process, rather than using materials that take much longer periods — and use more man-made energy resources to renew.
Another important benefit in using these natural fibers is that they can be made into bathroom wallpaper, as well as a complementary green wallpaper border, that contains no vinyl. Not using vinyl makes both the wallpaper and its border more “breathable,” because they do not trap air bubbles as vinyl can. This also means they do not trap bathroom moisture, which in turn reduces the conditions required to promote mildew in damp environments like bathrooms.

Natural fiber wallpaper that is suitable for use in bathrooms also boasts easier installation, by using more stable, latex resin pasted and pre-pasted, pulp-paper backings that do not expand and contract with heat and moisture as the old vinyl wallpapers do. They do not require chemical-based adhesives to apply them to a wall and, once in place, they can be cleaned using a damp-dry cloth dipped in water.
If you decide that you want to remove the newer green wallpaper and its green wallpaper border, there is no need to steam them off, apply chemical solvents or chip and tear away at them with a spackling knife as one did when removing the old-style wallpapers. You simply lift a corner and can easily peel entire sections off the wall. Moreover, these newer natural fiber materials are also recyclable when removed.
As manufacturers respond to consumer demands for the increased availability of environmentally conscious “green” wallpaper and its matching green wallpaper border for use throughout the home, including the bathroom or fitted kitchens, the cost of eco-friendly wallpaper will become more affordable and, therefore, even more attractive to consumers. Lowered cost, sustainability, ease of installation and removal, low maintenance and recyclability all combine to make green bathroom wallpaper and any accompanying green wallpaper border increasingly attractive to modern consumers.
As wallpaper and paint manufacturer Sherwin-Williams says of its new “EasyChange” eco-friendly wallpaper, “This new generation of wall coverings installs as easily as painting the wall.”
